Hi All,

I am here after running out of ideas of where else to look for the answer to this question. I work for a large professional association with over 270,000 members around the world. We have both local organizations (chapters) and online communities that our members can join and participate in as part of their membership.

I am in the midst of leading a project to implement a new online community platform and we are in the midst of doing live prototypes of 3 potential solutions: DNN, SharePoint and a 3rd party solution. I have been a fan of DNN since I first had the opportunity to work with it and believe it is the right solution for the project. However, there are a number of folks within my organization, including our Senior Infrastructure Architect doesn't believe DNN will scale to meet the needs of our online communities, he is also the biggest proponent of SharePoint within our organization.

I am one of a group of four working on this alternative solution and it is quickly gaining traction. From an implementation, stability and usability perspective DNN is kicking butt and taking names. It's winning people over daily. However, we have a number of questions that we have to answer if we want DNN to live on and so far nobody has been able to help me.

How does DNN scale?
What is the ideal hardware architecture to manage a DNN implementation consisting of many smaller sites?
Is there an ideal number of front end, database and file servers? Is their a practical user limit?
How well does it function in a web farm type environment?
Anybody have experience performance tuning and load balancing for the set-up?

I know these are tough questions to answer and to be honest r2integrated may be the first company that looks like they have been there and done that with their clients. I'm just looking for the hard data so we can complete our business case and technology planning and hopefully get DNN into our org.

Any thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? I'd really appreciate it.
