It seems that I am not allowed to have an Action within and IIF statement.  What is the problem?

{IIF,"[EditID,ViewState]=[ID]","Edit Save Update","[ID]"}

You need to ESCAPE listx commands withing listx commands

{IIF,"[EditID,ViewState]=[ID]","Save Update","[ID]"}

Also, you might want to post in the LISTX.General forum, you'll get answers much quicker , reviewed by more people.
ListX....makes you look brilliant, even though you're not.
