how can I change the language strings for listx - page, next, last, first and so on?

You can change these very easily using the provided lxPager tag. I accidentally left out the documentation for this feature, but it is a new addition in 1.9. Take a look at the following thread to see how to use it. Btw - if you want to support more than one language - use the LOCALE tag, which will let you load your physical text from a resource file.
