    Hello,

I am a college student. I would like to modify GoMap for my group project.

I would like to click on an icon and have it change a label's text with the icon's description (actually, it's to call another module to have it populate the list with information, anyways). I would just like to know where the code is in GoMap.

I think it would be in Bi4ce.GoMap.UI.ascx.vb; however, I don't know which portion of the code. I can't debug my code, it's as a website in VS 2005.

Thirdly, how to I get rid of the errors when I opened it as a website? It has errors for: PortalSettings. or DotnetNuke. and so on.

I have 2 weeks to finish this, please help.
Thank you.

Hi hn 1,

How are you looking to use GoMap? GoMap is designed to use in the DotNetNuke portal, versions 3.x and 4.x.

To debug GoMap, you will need to build the module using Visual Studios 2003, and then installed your DNN module on a DotNetNuke version 3.x portal.

You will not be able to use GoMap as as standalone .NET web application because it depends on features of DotNetNuke to function properly. This is the reason that you cannot find the PortalSettings. and DotnetNuke. references when you attempt to build the project.

If you wish to build a modified version of GoMap in two weeks time, your best bet is to start by downloading the latest version of GoMap and install it in a DNN portal.

    Hi ewalker,

I have downloaded GoMap and it works on the portal.

I have these folders:
Websites -> Dnn437: This stores all modules currently is on the portal.
dnnModules: This stores all modules that I am modifying and/or creating.

I have a Bi4ce_GoMap folder in the dnnModules that contains all  of the source code downloaded for the GoMap. I opens the GoMap as a website in VS 2005 and change the code there, then deploy it to the GoMap folder in Dnn437, under DesktopModules. So far, the changes I made seems to appear on the website.

I now need to find out when a user clicks on an icon, on the GoMap, where does it go to, so I can modify the code.

You're right, I can't use it as a standalone application, but the deployment works. Currently, I am not able to build anything, just through deploying it, checking the website, revising the code, and re-deploying it. Last time that I tried to debug, everything seems to have gotten wiped out, so I would like to play it safe now. If you are able to debug, can you help to tell me the function that gets called after a user clicks on an icon? After which the bubble with the description pops up?

I guess another alternative for me is to set up DNN on another computer with the starter kit, and debug from there. But if you happen to have the answer, please post.

Thank you so much.

I couldn't get GoMap to show up on DNN 4.3.7 Starter Kit portal. Also, with the starter kit, I don't know where the database it is accessing from is.

You will not be able to debug GoMap in a 4.x portal. The reason is that GoMap is compiled using .NET 1.1, but DNN 4.x using .NET 2.0. The .NET 1.1 code will run in 2.0, but you cannot debug 1.1 code in a 2.0 environment.

For getting started developing a Module under DNN 3.x, take a look at Michael Washington's article here:

For anyone who happens to need it in the future: It's not in the VB file, it's the js, for GoMap.UI, under goMap_CreateMarker(). The listener listens for someone to click the marker and does whatever is in the function. Change the stuff between the braces, after function() in the argument.

Look at the GoogleAPI for more understanding, under Handles Click or something like that.

Hi.. hn1

Why not just use GoMap with DNN to create a page in new directory and then from there you can create a new master page at same direcory to link it.
You can use DNN as admin site and your own page as subdomain for your target users, it will help in short time because you can exploit all the feature that GoMap has.

Good Luck
