This may sound simple to everyone but I have no idea how to do this. I just installed v2.8.2 and have a API key but don't know how to access the db. I want a simple display of the city, state of my registered users on a map overlay. When a user hovers over a pin for a city I would like a popup showing the users in that city. Just their names, no addresses. Do I have to create a new table for this or use the DNN table that contains the user info? Any pointers greatly appreciated. Thanks

How did you get this working? What settings did you use?

The vwPeopleOnline view that comes with GoMap will provide you with this city, state data for your users. GoMap does not support "hover" effects. To show the registered user on a map point, the visitor must click on the icon on the map.

Eric,

What's happening is I see one data point with all my users in the state. From what I've seen, it seems possible to have each user have their own data point, correct?

You can make a new view based on vwPeopleOnline that returns all users, instead of an aggregate by location. The only problem is that all users who have the same point on the map will be plotted on top of one-another, so you will only be able to click on the top point on the map. Where have you seen a GoMap example of this?

I can't remember where I've seen it. I can see you point, if members live in the same city. Is it possible to group members so that there will be a data point per each city (as opposed to a data point per member)?

Search the GoMap forum for an explanation for how the vwPeopleOnline and vwCountriesOnline match user profiles to points on the map. You will need to populate GoMap's GeoLookup table with City points in order to match people on that detail level. There are also explanations of how to do that in this forum. Thanks!

Hi Eric,

I've been searching and searching and while I see some texts on the addpoints interface...I don't think I've been able to located the explanation on how to populate City points. I'll keep looking, having said that, might I suggest adding this (since it seems to be a popular request) to the list of tutorials or pin those postings so that folks like me can find them quickly or just have a FAQ section (smile). Thanks for the help and it really is a great product, if I can just figure it out with my limited knowledge it will be a gem for my site!

In this thread, you will find an description of how to find the lat and long coordinates of points, and add them to the GeoLookup table.

Eric,

I found it (finally)...laughing. I think I have it working. I'm sure there's an easier process that what I used. Are there any tips on keeping the GeoLookup table synchronized for new cities that users may enter without the manual process of adding new points into another table and then copying the points to the geolookup table?

At the current time, adding new locations to the GeoLookup table is manual process in GoMap. Again, with GoMap, you are free to pull coordinate information from any procedure, view, or table in your database so it would be possible to engineer a process to get more accurate information about each user and plot in GoMap.
